AtD Update #1: September 25, 2006
Setting the Stage for Achieving the Dream (AtD): Community Colleges Count
Time constraints dictated that Dr. Pickelman and Dr. Head be very brief in their introduction of the Achieving the Dream Initiative during the Opening Day. To provide additional information about Achieving the Dream and to spark a dialogue about how we, as members of the Lone Star College System community, can better help our students be successful in college, the Lone Star College System Core Team will be e-mailing a series of regular AtD Factoids to all staff and faculty. Each AtD Factoid is designed to be read in five to ten minutes and will include links to websites and other reports if you want more detailed information.
During the fall semester, the AtD Factoids will focus on:
· The national Achieving the Dream Initiative;
· Achieving the Dream Initiative: Community College Count at Lone Star College System;
· Providing an introduction to the student success data currently available at Lone Star College System; and
· The Lone Star College System Achieving the Dream Website.
The Achieving the Dream process centers on utilizing data about student success as a framework to examine and discuss institutional policies and practices which may hinder students as they strive to achieve their academic and career goals. Such institutional circumspection cannot occur without an active dialogue at all levels. As you read these factoids, we encourage you talk about their contents with your colleagues and peers as well as members of your family and the larger community. Should you have any questions about the information contained in the AtD Factoids, need clarification about the data or simple wish to comment please contact Lea Campbell, x 6584, carol.l.campbell@Lone Star College System.
